What Is Su Yi An (Qing Cao Gao)?

Qing Cao Gao (青草膏, Green Herbal Balm) is one of Taiwan's most recognized traditional TCM topical ointments, with roots in the island's martial arts school (Guoshu Guan) culture. Su Yi An is the modern pharmacist-formulated version — preserving the traditional Wan Ying Gao herbal core while delivering a smooth, ready-to-use paste that requires no heating or mixing.

How It Works

Su Yi An combines menthol and wintergreen oil for immediate cooling relief with 20+ traditional TCM herbs — including Angelica sinensis, Myrrh, Frankincense, and Cinnamon — to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and support recovery from soft tissue injuries. The cooling sensation provides fast comfort while the herbal compounds work beneath the surface.

Best Used For:

  • Acute sprains and strains (after first 24 hours when visible heat has subsided)
  • Muscle soreness from physical activity or overuse
  • Joint aches and general musculoskeletal discomfort
  • Bruises and minor impact injuries
  • Insect bites and minor skin irritation
  • Daily use for people with chronic mild aches who prefer a cooling sensation

Su Yi An vs Wei Yi An — Which One Should You Choose?

Both are Taiwan TCM herbal ointments made by TAIYUN Pharmaceutical, but they serve different needs:

  • Su Yi An (Qing Cao Gao) — cooling and refreshing sensation, ideal for acute recovery phase, general muscle soreness, and users who prefer a lighter, cooling feel.
  • Wei Yi An (Wan Ning Gao) — concentrated black herbal balm with deep penetrating action, ideal for chronic soft tissue injuries, tendonitis, and stubborn old injuries.

How to Apply:

  1. Take a suitable amount of Su Yi An and spread evenly onto non-woven fabric, leaving a 1cm border on all edges.
  2. Cover with gauze, then apply to the affected area.
  3. Secure with medical adhesive tape on all four edges.
  4. Leave on for 6–8 hours. Replace daily.

Alternatively, apply a small amount directly to the affected area and massage gently until absorbed. First-time users: test on inner wrist for 24 hours before full use. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds.

Q1

What is Su Yi An ointment? What is Qing Cao Gao?

A

Su Yi An (速易安) is TAIYUN Pharmaceutical's modern reformulation of Qing Cao Gao (Green Herbal Balm / 青草膏), based on the classical Wan Ying Gao formula. It combines menthol and wintergreen oil for immediate cooling relief with 20+ traditional TCM herbs to relieve muscle pain, joint aches, sprains, and bruises. Pharmacist supervised. Made in Taiwan. DOH Mfg. No. 015078.

Q2

What conditions is Su Yi An suitable for?

A

Su Yi An is suitable for: acute sprains and strains (after the first 24 hours), muscle soreness from exercise or overuse, joint aches, bruises, insect bites, and daily maintenance for people with mild chronic aches. It is best used from the recovery phase onward. For acute injuries with visible heat and swelling in the first 24 hours, apply ice first before using any herbal ointment.

Q3

What is the difference between Su Yi An and Wei Yi An?

A

Su Yi An (Qing Cao Gao) provides cooling relief — the menthol and wintergreen oil create a refreshing sensation suited for acute recovery, general soreness, and users who prefer a lighter, cooling feel. Wei Yi An (Wan Ning Gao) is a concentrated black herbal balm with deep-penetrating action, better suited for chronic soft tissue injuries, tendonitis, and stubborn old injuries that don't respond to surface-level treatments. Q4

Is Su Yi An the same as Thai herbal balm?

A

No. Thai herbal balm uses aromatic plant extracts for a cooling or warming sensation and is primarily an aromatherapy product. Su Yi An is based on Taiwan's classical TCM formula (Wan Ying Gao) and contains 20+ traditional Chinese medicinal herbs with specific therapeutic indications approved by Taiwan's Department of Health (DOH). It is a licensed pharmaceutical product, not a cosmetic or wellness product.

Q5

Where can I buy Su Yi An ointment?

A

Su Yi An is not sold on retail platforms due to Taiwan pharmaceutical regulations. To purchase, please contact our pharmacist via WhatsApp: https://wa.me/message/IOR3XAXSPBKIA1 or Line: @typhd. Our pharmacist will confirm suitability for your condition before processing your order. International orders including Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the US are accepted.

Q6

Do I need a TCM practitioner to use Su Yi An?

A

No. Su Yi An is an over-the-counter licensed TCM topical ointment — no prescription or TCM practitioner referral is required. Simply contact our pharmacist directly for a free consultation before purchase. Our pharmacist will help you understand whether Su Yi An is suitable for your specific condition and advise on correct application.

Q7

What is Wan Ying Gao? Is Su Yi An the same thing?

A

Wan Ying Gao (萬應膏) is a classical Taiwanese TCM formula widely used in martial arts schools for sprains, muscle pain, and joint discomfort. Su Yi An is TAIYUN's modern reformulation of Wan Ying Gao — same traditional herbal core, formulated as a smooth ready-to-use paste for modern convenience. Think of Su Yi An as Wan Ying Gao upgraded for everyday use.

Q8

Are there any precautions or side effects?

A

Su Yi An contains menthol and camphor — do not use on children under 2 years old, especially near the face and mouth. For adults, do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or active eczema. People with known menthol or camphor allergies should not use this product. First-time users: apply a small amount on the inner wrist and wait 24 hours to confirm no allergic reaction. If you have specific medical conditions, consult our pharmacist first.
